First impressions are about you, not them. There is a lot of research on first impressions- “7 seconds is all you have”- and yet what the research doesn’t typically tell you is how much your first impressions are a projection of who YOU are- not who THEY are. Your first impressions are shaped by your mood, your experiences, the beliefs you’ve formed, your values and your attitude at any given moment.

You see the world and people as you are- your filters shape what you see.

So, Next time you meet someone and form a first impression – check-in with yourself first. And make room for an alternate impression to form.

People are icebergs. You only see the tip. Get curious instead of judgmental about what lies underneath. All the parts you don’t see and cannot know unless you ASK.

Ask questions! Questions are the pathway to breaking down first impressions.
