We’ve read your mind.

We’ve read your mind.

We are thinking you probably have questions!

Chances are you’ve been thinking about becoming a certified coach. You are passionate about helping others, and dream about doing it full time. We aspire to help you make an informed decision.

Here are seven questions we get most often from our community:
There are so many Coach Certification programs online, how do I know Canada Coach Academy is legitimate?

There are two ways to know for sure.  First Canada Coach Academy is an Approved Partner of the International Coach Federation (ICF) and our program qualifies as Approved Coach Specific Training Hours (ACSTH).

The second is that Canada Coach Academy is officially recognized by the government and approved by the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, under subparagraph 118.5 (1)(a)(ii) of the Income Tax Act. Accordingly, students may claim the fees paid to the institution for purposes of the tuition tax credit. We issue at T20 form.

What are the minimum qualifications for ICF Certification and how do I get the ICF credential?

Minimum qualifications are completion of 60 ACSTH hours, 10 hours of mentoring by a PCC level coach or an ACC coach with more than 3 years experience in good standing with the ICF.

As well you must complete a practicum of 100 hours of coaching. You can begin to log hours as of the first day of your program. Hours include an allowance for 75 paid/ 25 pro-bono with a minimum of 8 unique coach clients.

The ICF credential application is done separately with the ICF directly. The ICF is a non-profit independent body that qualifies coaches and governs professional conduct. The application fee is 100USD for members of the ICF and 300USD for non-members. We are not associated with this fee, however we walk you through the process to be sure you have all you need. At the completion of your certification with us you will receive a diploma to submit to the ICF.

How do I find people to coach?

At Canada Coach Academy the moment you become a student you enter a community of coaches through the student-only access CCA Global Village. Here you can connect with students who are all working towards 100 hours. This gives you the opportunity to log hours with your peers which is also considered “paid” as it is an exchange of service.

What day and time are the online programs scheduled?

The day and time of the online classes are scheduled as a group, together in our first session. We all take out our agendas and look at one day per week we can all gather for a live training session over ZOOM.

I’m very busy. What happens if I miss a class?

If you miss a class, you can watch the missed session in the classroom resource library or you can jump into another group to retake the class. However, you must plan to attend 80% of the sessions.

How many hours per week do I need to devote to certification?

Approximately 4 hours/week between class time and assignments plus reading. Coaches who aspire to finish the program and apply to ICF should plan approximately 5 hours/week of coach practice.

How long does it take to complete the program?

All our programs are 21 weeks (5 months). This means all group classes are completed in 21 weeks, however you are responsible to self manage your coaching hours as well as your individual mentoring.
